2 girls hit by vehicle, airlifted to Yankton hospital

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two girls walking to school in Crofton, Nebraska, were hit by a vehicle and airlifted to Yankton Avera Hospital on Friday morning.

The Knox County (Nebraska) Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened at 8:04 a.m. when the girls were on their way to school. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the two girls were walking north on W 5th St. and stopped at the W. Harold St. crosswalk.

According to the release, a vehicle driving east didn’t stop at the flashing crosswalk lights and hit the two girls. The driver was a juvenile male and uninjured.

Both girls were airlifted to the Yankton hospital 15 miles away before law enforcement arrived on scene. The girls’ condition is unknown at this time.

Crofton Fire and EMS, as well as the Nebraska State Patrol and Knox County Sheriff’s Office were on scene.
