How you can help Bishop Dudley Center for Families

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Bishop Dudley Center for Families will open soon.

The center will provide temporary shelter for homeless families.

Loads of household items were hauled into the Bishop Dudley Center for Families on Friday.

It was all thanks to donors, including members of the St. Mary Catholic Church altar society in Sioux Falls.

“We dropped off canned goods, we dropped off noodles. We dropped of napkins, we dropped off paper towels,” Donor Amy Kusmak said.

The center is also stocking up on items like toothbrushes, peanut butter, and cleaning supplies for its Fill Our Pantry event.

“Everything about equipping a homeless shelter is that we need everything at the homeless shelter that we have in our own homes,” Executive Director Madeline Shields said.

Shields hopes the center is open in the next couple of weeks.

“We are very close. We are waiting on some equipment for internet and technology and getting our phones in, and then we should be able to start accepting families,” Shield said.

The center will have room for 10 families at a time as the non-profit helps them get back on their feet.

And your donations of household items can make a big difference in that mission.

“Our group is a group of dedicated women that feels it’s important to provide services for families in town,” Kusmak said.

You can drop off items at the center Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

It’s located at the former Children’s Inn on Western Avenue.
