SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A total of four people were shot and a 29-year-old died after a shooting at Dunham Park Sunday that police continue to investigate Monday.
Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens said there’s been no arrests made yet as police continue to piece together what happened and who was involved.
Developing: Severe weather outbreak likely today
Clemens said the call came in around 4:21 p.m. Sunday at Dunham Park.
“We believe that everybody knew each other,” Clemens said. “Something happened, and then gunshots happened after that.”
Clemens said four people were hit and there were multiple shell casings at the scene, but police are still figuring out how many shots were fired. Police are also still figuring out how many people were involved, but Clemens called it “a large gathering.”
The person who died was Joshau Antrell Allen Jr., 29, of Sioux Falls. Clemens said a 27-year-old man from Sioux Falls was hit multiple times in the legs and torso, a 40-year-old was hit in the face and 26-year-old hit in the shoulder.
“The victims are all hospitalized and a couple of them have life-threatening injuries,” said Clemens, who said 2 more victims are facing life threatening injuries.
Clemens said police can’t yet say whether or not it was gang activity. He said the shell casings were all handgun shell casings.
“There’s a lot of work to do,” Clemens said. “The park remains closed.”
Clemens said the park may reopen later Monday night.
He said people should reach out to police or crimestoppers with any information tied to the case.
This is the sixth homicide investigation for Sioux Falls police in 2024.
