Saturday Boredom Busters: August 17th

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Celebrate 100 years of the American Heart Association’s mission of pursuing medical breakthroughs in heart disease and stroke by taking part in the Heart Walk. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Fawick Park in Sioux Falls. The 1.5 mile walk begins at 9 a.m. The goal is to raise $92,000.

Downtown Riverfest returns to the River Greenway Amphitheater in downtown Sioux Falls. The musical lineup includes The Teels, Mat D & Roadside Revival, Kid Dakota and Indigenous. Riverfest runs from 4-11 p.m. and also includes food vendors, the Zoomobile and raffles. Admission is free.

Enjoy more free music downtown during Levitt at the Falls. The music starts at 7 p.m. with opening act New World Radio. That’s followed by headliner The Reminders. Prior to the music, you’re invited backstage for an art show that includes kids activities and a raffle starting at 4 p.m.

Riverboat Days & Summer Arts Festival in Yankton include a parade at 9:30 a.m., a vendor fair at 10 a.m., Ferris wheel rides starting at noon, chainsaw sculpting demonstrations throughout the afternoon and live music in the evening. Riverboat Days run through Sunday.

The Tacos & Tequila Festival at Sioux Falls Stadium includes hip hop performances, food vendors, a chihuahua beauty pageant and lucha libre wrestling. The festival runs from 2-11 p.m.

Socks and underwear giveaway to help families

Woofstock at Remedy Brewing Company in downtown Sioux Falls includes music, vendors, puppy costume contests and Dachshund races. The fundraiser for Dakota Dachshund Rescue takes place from 1-5 p.m.

Books & Butterflies at the Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls includes books from REACH Literacy for kids to explore and take home, plus a chance to win a gift card to the REACH store. There will also be a craft station for kids to create their own bookmark. Books & Butterflies runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Enjoy free family fishing at Lake Lorraine. Fishing will be on the west shore of the lake across from Cars for Sale from 10 a.m. to noon. No registration is required and all gear will be provided.

The Woodcrafts Expo at the Sioux Falls Convention Center is bringing together all things woodworking including tool exhibitor demonstrations plus hand-crafted items for gifts or home decor. The expo runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7, free for ages 12 and under.

Meet former Minnesota Vikings great Carl Eller at the Sioux Falls Sports Card Show. Eller will be signing autographs at the Ramkota Best Western from noon to 2 p.m. The sports card show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, free for ages under 12 years old.

Farmers Market season in KELOLAND includes the Falls Park Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Brandon Farmers Market goes from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 925 North Splitrock Boulevard. The farmers markets are held each Saturday through October.

The Heartland County Corn Maze, east of Harrisburg on Highway 11, is open for its 25th season. The 11-acre maze is open from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday’s hours are noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $9, $6 for children and free for ages 4 and under.

Ben Clare United Methodist Church in Valley Springs, SD is hosting an Ice Cream Social. Serving time is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The menu also includes pork loin sandwiches and potato salad. A free-will offering will be taken.

Cool off in the late summer heat with a visit to the City of Sioux Falls outdoor pools. They’re located at Drake Springs, Kuehn, Laurel Oak, Hayward & Pioneer Parks. The hours are 1-8 p.m.

Movies playing at the historic State Theater in downtown Sioux Falls include Trolls Band Together, rated PG and Oddity, rated R.

The Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls features Wings Over Water, Magic Globe, Zodiac Skies and Cities of the Future.

New in theaters this weekend, Alien: Romulus, rated R.
