SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Before we start thinking about fall, let’s look back at the summer.
With just a couple of days left in August, here’s a look at how the summer ended up for rain amounts in KELOLAND.
Yesterday’s rain in eastern South Dakota has moved out of the area and with dry skies for the rest of the month, it was a tale of two ends of the state when it come to summer rain.
In southeast KELOLAND, June set records for rain. And thanks to June, it pushed Sioux Falls to its 15th wettest summer on record.
Quiet Weather Moves In – Storm Center PM Update: August 30th, 2024
That wet weather extended west. Mitchell made it to their 8th wettest on record and Pierre at its 24th wettest.But you may notice it’s a lot different in western South Dakota.Rapid City has had very little rain. In fact, the Rapid City airport will go down with its 4th driest summer on record.
So while it may be nice to have dry skies for the holiday weekend, western South Dakota can use some rain. Unfortunately, the early outlook for September is for below average precipitation.
