SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Another three-quarters of an inch fell officially in Sioux Falls, and while we’ve been below average for rain the past two months, it’s June’s rain that keeps us climbing the ladder of wettest summers.

Scattered storms rolled across southern KELOLAND Monday and while severe weather was widespread in southwest South Dakota early in the day, as it moved east it lost its punch. Don’t get me wrong, we still had isolated severe weather reports but most of it stayed as brief heavy rain with a lot of lightning.
Thanks to over 11 inches in June, Sioux Falls is now at its 16th wettest summer with 14.31″.After Tuesday we have only 4 days to add to the rain gauge, so we’re limited as to how much more we may add.
But it’s a different story in western South Dakota. While the Rapid City Airport did receive a third of an inch of rain, it’s still in the top five for driest summers with under 3 inches.
After a brief cool-down today, we’ll bring in warmer temperatures and thicker humidity Wednesday, eventually leading to our next rain chance on Thursday in the east.
