SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — A motorist is behind bars for what police are calling a “crash-spree” near downtown Sioux Falls early Thursday morning.
Maximum price for new men’s prison set at $825 million
Police say this is where it all began around 3 or 4 o’clock this morning.
“A Chevy Traverse basically struck another motorist on the exit ramp from 229 and Minnesota and then proceeded northbound on Minnesota to a cannabis shop,” said Sgt. Travis Olsen.
There, the SUV struck a digital sign and smashed through the business’s front door, before getting back on Minnesota Avenue.
“Continued northbound, sideswiped to what’s believed to be a blue Ford focus,” said Olsen.
The driver still didn’t stop.
“It did manage to make it north all the way to six in Minnesota, where it struck a believed to be a Park County Sheriff’s Patrol vehicle that was in the administration lot,” said Olsen.
From there, the SUV headed to Falls Park where it got stuck. Police found 33-year-old Ashlyann Saathoff nearby and made an arrest.
“They were so far charged with DWI, hit and run, and several counts of felony intentional damage to property.”
Since the crashes were so widespread, spanning more than 3 miles of city streets, police want to hear from anyone who may have been hit or has information that could help with the investigation.
“They’re still trying to piece together everything that was damaged and a total dollar amount for that matter,” said Olsen.
Saathoff has no criminal history in South Dakota.
