Two men charged with fentanyl death

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — Two South Dakota men have been charged with distributing a substance that resulted in death, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Evan Wylde Nelson,18, of Yankton and Udda Ambi Kobaba, 19, of Sioux Falls were indicted in federal court in late August. The pair are charged for intentionally distributing fentanyl that resulted in the death of the victim.

In May of 2024, Nelson was indicted by a Yankton County Grand Jury on three felony counts: onecount of distribution of a controlled substance to a minor resulting in death; one count ofdistribution of a controlled substance to a minor; and one count of unauthorized possession of acontrolled substance, according to the release.

All state charges are now dismissed because of the federal indictment.

If convicted, the two could face a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison.
