1:33 p.m. CT:
All Rapid City Area schools are under a secure status, according to an email sent to parents by the school district.
“A threat was made to a west side school around 11 a.m.” the email said. “The safety of all students district-wide is a top priority.”
On social media, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office said there was a “report of a social media message circulating among students depicting a firearm.”
Authorities said no students have been harmed and other Rapid City Area School schools are on secure status.
“There is currently a large law enforcement presence in and around Stevens High School as we work through determining the validity of a generalized threat and the identity of the individuals responsible,” the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office said.
The secure status is out of an abundance of caution, according to the district.
