18 students hospitalized in NW IA school bus crash

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — A crash between a pickup truck and a school bus sent 18 students to the hospital Tuesday morning in Sioux County Iowa.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a crash at the intersection of 430th Street and Marsh Avenue, three miles north of Granville, Iowa.

A 23-year-old driving a 2015 Ford F-150 was eastbound on 430th Street and a 76-year-old was driving a 2022 Thomas school bus for the Unity Christian High School southbound on Marsh Avenue. The two met and struck in the intersection.

The 23-year-old was transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries. The 76-year-old and 18 students were transported to the Orange City Area Health System for treatment of various injuries ranging from minor to serious, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said one student was taken to Sanford Medical and one is currently under further observation.

The crash remains under investigation by both the Sioux County Sheriff’s office and Iowa State Patrol.
