Salvation Army sees rise in aid requests following hurricanes, gears up for shortened Red Kettle Campaign

As the holiday season approaches, The Salvation Army is preparing for a heightened demand for assistance nationwide that it says is fueled by a combination of economic pressures and natural disasters. The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services responded to 4,307 disasters in 2023, including Hurricanes Idalia in the South and fires and floods across the West and East. This year’s hurricane season prompted the organization’s largest response since 2020, with extensive efforts for Hurricanes Beryl, Debby, Francine, Helene and Milton.
