Mexico unveils plan to tackle Caribbean seaweed invasion at popular beaches
Mexico is ramping up efforts to combat the annual sargassum seaweed invasion along the shores of major tourist destinations like Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Mahahual. As part of its Sargassum Response Strategy, the government is implementing a four-phase plan that includes detection, containment and removal to keep Caribbean beaches clean and protect tourism. Officials are working with scientists to monitor sargassum movement and ensure a rapid response.
