SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Dennis Lufkins, an offender within the South Dakota state prison system, has died.

According to the release announcing his death, Lufkins, 76, died in the Jameson Annex medical unit on June 15.

Lufkins was serving a life sentence for first-degree manslaughter out of Roberts County.

42-year-old state inmate dead

This is the 11th inmate to die in state custody in 2025.
