A day on the job for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Former South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is giving Americans a glimpse into her new role as the Secretary of Homeland Security.

Noem could be seen wearing an ICE vest in pictures posted to her DHS secretary account on X.

Noem oversaw ICE operations during her stop in New York City Tuesday morning, aimed at tracking down undocumented immigrants.

In a post on the account, Noem called one of the people arrested a “criminal alien” and said the person had kidnapping, assault, and burglary charges.

“We are getting the dirtbags off these streets,” Noem said in a video on X.

Earlier this week, protesters gathered in some U.S. cities to speak out against the deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Tuesday afternoon, the newly confirmed DHS secretary addressed her staff for the first time.

“I am so thrilled to be a part of the family at the United States Department of Homeland Security. Your mission is big, and it’s vast,” Noem said.

During her remarks, Noem spoke about the challenges ahead.

“We’ve got dangerous, evil foreign governments that want to take us down. We will be the first line of defense for anybody that’s in the American homeland. We will do everything we can to protect the American people,” Noem said.
