A look ahead at Day 19 of the 2025 legislative session

PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Here’s a look at some of the events scheduled at the state Capitol for Tuesday, February 11, the 19th working day of the 2025 session of the South Dakota Legislature.

Senate Judiciary at 7:45 a.m. CT in room 413 considers six bills including one that would establish mandatory reporting requirements related to crimes, improper governmental conduct, and conflicts of interest, and one that would establish protections for state employees who report crimes, misconduct, or conflicts of interest.

Senate Education at 8 a.m. CT in room 423 considers two bills including one to require the display and curricular inclusion of the Woope Sakowin in public schools.

Senate Commerce and Energy at 10 a.m. CT in room 412 considers two bills as well as s confirmation hearing on the appointment of Joe Fiala as state economic development commissioner.

Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources at 10 a.m. CT in room 423 considers two bills including whether to authorize the South Dakota State Brand Board to enter a memorandum of understanding with any Indian tribe for the investigation of cattle theft.

Other committees meeting Tuesday include House Taxation, House Health and Human Services, House Agriculture and Natural Resources, Joint Committee on Appropriations, House Transportation, House Local Government, and House Appropriations.

The Senate and House of Representatives convene general floor sessions at 2 p.m. CT. The Senate debate calendar has 12 Senate bills and one House bill. The House debate calendar has five House bills.
