PIERRE, S.D. (KELO) — Here’s a look at some of the events scheduled at the state Capitol for Wednesday, March 5, the 32nd working day of the 2025 session of the South Dakota Legislature.
Committees meeting Wednesday morning include House State Affairs, Senate Health and Human Services, House Appropriations, House Education, Senate State Affairs, Senate Taxation, Senate Local Government, House Judiciary, and Joint Appropriations.
The Senate and the House of Representatives convene their general floor sessions at 2 p.m. CT. The Senate debate calendar has four bills, including whether to make changes to the State Library and eliminate the State Library Board.
The House debate calendar has one resolution and 14 Senate bills, including whether to require legislative approval of real property leases that are necessary for the operation of state government and exceed specified durations or rental payments.
And in the wishful thinking department, House State Affairs plans to meet on a second round of bills at 3 p.m. CT or (more likely) 15 minutes after the House floor session concludes. Among the eight bills the committee plans to consider is a proposal from the governor and a task force of 10 legislators seeking to reduce the growth in the assessed value of owner-occupied property, limit increases in certain property tax revenues, revise provisions regarding school district excess tax levies, and revise eligibility requirements for a property tax assessment freeze.
