A new way to watch KELOLAND News

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — KELOLAND+ is offering more people the opportunity to keep up with the news live from anywhere in the country.

“You can watch it from anywhere else is kind of one of the benefits I found in this is, you know, if you’re someone here or from this area, but you don’t live in this area anymore, you know, you’re down in Arizona because you’re a snowbird. You can actually load the KELOLAND+ app up on your TV, and you can kind of keep up to date with what’s going on in this area,” said Jody Staples, KELOLAND digital media manager.

As long as you have the ability to use Roku, Fire or Apple streaming devices, the app is available for free. Here’s how it works on Roku: all you have to do is search for “KELOLAND Plus,” install the app, and start watching. Local newscasts stream live, but you can also re-watch local stories, sports highlights and weather.

“Our hope is that we’re going to start to connect with a younger generation, people that have sampled our station over the air. But they’re using the streaming, that’s their daily habit. And so, we are really just looking to expand our audience,” said Mari Ossenfort, KELOLAND vice president and general manager.

When there isn’t a newscast streaming live, you can watch KELOLAND Living, NewsNation or WeatherNow on the app. But there are bigger plans in store to showcase more local content.

“We got to crawl and then we got to walk and then we got to run. Right? And so right now you might want to say we’re in a little bit of a crawling stage. But as time goes by, we see all kinds of local content that we can offer the community. So that’s going to be really fun,” said Ossenfort.
