AI-enabled fitness studio soon to open in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – There’s a new place to workout in town that’s a little different than what you might expect of a traditional gym.

Inside The Exercise Coach you’ll find only about nine pieces of equipment and not a lot of people. But a small, quiet environment is exactly what this national franchise strives to give it’s clients.

“A lot of people don’t love that big gym scene — the busy, the loud. So, our training is one on one, primarily,” Etrheim, owner of The Exercise Coach in Sioux Falls, said. “We’re never going to have more than four people working out at once.”

And the equipment that is in here is unique in that it’s all enabled with AI.

“AI-powered with coach support. So, you put in your age, your gender, we do strength tests, we find your range of motion,” Etrheim said. “It’ll take that and then create your workout for you, creating the right intensity to be working out at to see those results.”

Etrheim says each workout is only about 20 minutes long and focused on building muscle mass.

“So, although the workouts will work for anyone, our typical clientele tends to be about 40 plus. That’s when we start to lose some of our crucial muscle mass,” Etrheim said. “And also maybe people who are battling injuries or different limitations. The equipment, again, is very controlled, custom to you and what you have going on. So, eliminates a lot of risk of injury. It’s going to be a very safe way to build our muscle.”

Etrheim says they understand this program can take some getting used to, though. That’s why for each new client they offer two free sessions.

“The equipment is weird, hard to understand,” Etrheim said. “So, those two free sessions have zero obligation. We encourage everyone to come, take advantage of them. Try it out, get on the equipment for yourself and just see what we’re all about.”

Etrheim is from Minnesota but lived in Florida for a bit, which is where she started working with The Exercise Coach and decided she wanted to open one closer to home.

The Sioux Falls location opens July 9th on the lower level of the Independent Medical Arts building on South Minnesota Avenue.
