CANTON, S.D. (KELO) – Friday marks the sixth Christmas in Canton event where businesses celebrate the holiday with the community. This year includes a unique online shop turned consignment storefront.
“Lettuce Sell Your Stuff” opened their Canton location a few months ago. The consignment store takes in used furniture and household items from people’s homes, businesses and estate sales.
“Anyone that has stuff that they want to get rid of, they wanna sell it, they can let me know and they can either bring stuff to our tea warehouse or to our Canton storefront,” Owner Brady Barr said. “If there’s, you know, any businesses, any people that have too much stuff and not enough time, we’ll sell it.”

The Canton location is open one weekend a month for four days. This month, they are open from December 5-8 and will be open again January 9-12. Barr added that the Tea warehouse is always open for dropping off items, as well as picking up online orders.
Barr’s business started in 2023 as a door-to-door, online consignment shop in Sioux Falls. He would act as the middleman between sellers, driving to their homes to take photos, list the products online and communicate with buyers.
“It became where I was just driving all over town all the time,” he said.
The new storefront has been more convenient for him and his customers, Barr said, because “they know where I am, they can bring stuff here and then they can come here to shop when we’re open.”
Despite the store’s name, a punny dad joke inspired by Barr’s actual dad, it doesn’t actually sell any lettuce.
Jeannie Henrichs is a local painter who specializes in the grattage technique of painting textured wood and removing paint with paper.
Last month, she went into Lettuce Sell Your Stuff looking for furniture to refurbish and now, her and Barr have begun a partnership of sorts. Henrichs has a small pop-up in the store and will begin selling her larger painted furniture and working with customer commissions soon.
“I walked in here and I went, ‘This is heaven to me, all this room,” Henrichs said about the Canton store. “I have big pieces that are ready to go, and I just don’t have room for them in the booth.”
Henrich’s business, Russell Road, also has a smaller booth at 605 Antiques.
Barr was able to move his December opening dates to coordinate with Christmas in Canton thanks to the persuasion of Rick Jeul, a self-proclaimed Christmas enthusiast who’s helped make the event bigger over the years.
“I’m trying my hardest to kind of revive the spirit and keep it alive,” Juel said. “It is kind of a cute little place for even Sioux Falls people that want to get out of a big town.”
Barr agrees and says his new location in Canton is allowing his business to grow and reach more people.
“The response has been good in Canton; everybody’s really friendly,” he said. “I love Sioux Falls so much, but I also love being a part of the smaller town Canton feel.”
