UPDATE: 59-year-old dead in I-29 crash Tuesday

News Headlines

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — A 59-year-old Sioux Falls man died in a crash on Interstate 29 Tuesday night.

The 59-year-old was driving a 2008 Lexus IS250 northbound on Interstate 29 in a construction zone near mile marker 79. At the same time, the driver of a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia with double trailers was traveling the same direction in the next lane, a news release from the Department of Public Safety said. The trailer wheels struck a concrete barrier, sending the second trailer airborne which then tipped over, landing on the Lexus. Both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch.

The man died of his injuries at the scene. The semi driver was not injured.

Our KELOLAND News crew captured video from the area.

According to our crew, I-29 was blocked off from 12th Street to West Madison Street for some time.
