SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — One man is in the Minnehaha County Jail after Sioux Falls police say he destroyed a downtown sculpture Thursday night.
Christopher Buchanan, 45, from Sioux Falls is accused of shattering the artwork. Police say witnesses saw Buchanan walking around the artwork at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The sculpture broke into several pieces. When it fell, it caused thousands of dollars in damages to a nearby parked car.
KELOLAND’s Karlee Phillips captured the damage Friday morning.
The sculpture is part of SculptureWalk Sioux Falls and one of many that line the downtown on Phillips Avenue. It is made out of spring stone and is worth more than $10,000.
SculptureWalk posted about the damage on Facebook and asks the public to share any information they might have about the incident.
The artist is Gedion Nyanhongo and his work was titled “Tornado”. Photos show what the sculpture looked like before and after the damage.
