“There’s some booths behind me. There’s some booths in front of me. There’s a stage over there with lots of entertainment,” said Rachel Polan, president of Sioux Falls Pride. “We have a doggy fashion show happening later, along with the drag entertainment, musical entertainment. So, lots of fun things happening out here today.”
Aside from fun activities, the festival gives people a chance for community.
“I’ve been seeing a lot of friends and a lot of people around. I’ve been meeting some new people,” said Achilles Anderson, who attended both the parade and festival.
Achilles Anderson has been coming to the festival for three years, and they enjoy the opportunity it provides for businesses to showcase their work.
“I love buying jewelry from people in town. I think it’s kind of important to support small businesses around town, and some of them are really good,” said Anderson.
At the end of the day, the president of Sioux Falls Pride has a simple message and mission:
“I want people to feel loved and accepted and just have a great time at pride. Pride is for everyone. Whether you’re an ally or an LGBT individual, we are absolutely thrilled to have everyone out today,” said Polan.
