Four arrested after gunfire from moving vehicle in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Two adults and two juveniles are in custody following an early morning gunfire incident on June 12 in north Rapid City.Just after 3:00 a.m., police responded to reports of gunshots near the 1700 block of North 7th Street. Officers located several shell casings near the intersection of Star Avenue and North 7th Street.

Surveillance footage revealed a suspect vehicle leaving the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1720 N. 7th Street before multiple rounds were fired into the air from the vehicle.Around 5:35 a.m., police located the suspect vehicle at a Maverick Gas Station at 1624 Haines Avenue. All four occupants were found inside a nearby store and detained. Officers noted an open alcohol container in the vehicle and discovered a loaded handgun, which was later confirmed to be stolen.Nineteen-year-old Ashton Shaw of Rapid City was identified as the individual who fired the gun. He was arrested for Discharge of a Firearm from a Moving Vehicle, a felony offense.The vehicle’s driver, 22-year-old Lilianna Patton, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and on a Parole Hold. Both Shaw and Patton were transported to the Pennington County Jail.Two juveniles connected to the incident were also detained and referred to the appropriate channels of the juvenile justice system.The case remains under active investigation.
