SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — With our recent 80-degree temps, snow may be one of the furthest things from your mind. However, one Sioux Falls business is ecstatic for the return of flurries and is getting ready for the wintry weather.
“After a short season last year, we’re chomping at the bit for sure,” guest services manager, Jayne Vanderberg said.
And while there is no snow in the forecast yet, crews are preparing for flurries to fall. They’re also gearing up for this weekend.
“OctoBEARfest is our kickoff for winter. We have a season pass on sale for 20% off, but we also have a variety of activities for people to come out this Saturday. We’re doing free chairlift rides, food trucks, live music and inflatables from 11 to 2,” Director of communications Alexa Jerstad said.

“We have some new pass options that we’re offering, knowing that we have busy weekends. We have a weekday pass now knowing that parents with kiddos five and under don’t necessarily want to be in the long line. We have a tot season pass now, so some fun things like that gearing up,” Vanderberg said.
Due to last season being their shortest season at only 35 days, they’re offering a $100 credit for last season’s pass holders.
“It was a huge bummer not being able to use your pass for our even expected season. And we want these people to come back. We want them to experience a full season at Great Bear. So if we can make it easier if we can make it more affordable, that’s something we want to do,” Vanderberg said.
Staff are ready to bring back the snow ASAP.
“When it gets cold, we’re going to be making snow,” Jerstad said.
