RAPID CITY, S.D. — The first hydrant block party of the summer is set to kick off Wednesday, June 18, at Sioux Park.The hydrant block parties are open to all ages and with the Rapid City Fire Department turning on truck hoses and opening hydrants, prepare to get wet.

In addition to plenty of water, there will be games and other fun during the two-hour event.“So we started this hydrant party three years ago. I noticed East River, we’re putting some on, and then I also noted, notice some other states around the US, we’re also putting them on. So I said, let’s give it a shot. And it’s been a great hit ever since. Everybody has fun the fire our police department will bring water guns. Sometimes I’ll have water balloons. It’s a great party,” said Lindsey Myers, Parks and Recreation Specialist with Rapid City Parks and Recreation.The hydrant block parties are scheduled at Sioux Park on Wednesday, June 18, and at College Park on July 23. Both events run 1 to 3 p.m.In the event of inclement weather, rain dates will be scheduled one week later at the same location and time.
