Sitting Up is accused of first-degree kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon as of Friday morning, according to court documents.
Early Friday morning the state of South Dakota issued an amber alert after the reported kidnapping Thursday night around 9:30 p.m..
The grandmother was watching the child when one of the women threatened her with the gun, then took the child.
SFPD spokesman Sam Clemens said the woman that threatened the grandmother “wasn’t a stranger.”
The amber alert was issued early Friday morning around 2:30 a.m.. Clemens said that time delay “is not unusual.”
“This is the first fully activated amber alert by Sioux Falls,” Clemens said. It is unknown where the group may be going with the child, Clemens said.
They are believed to be driving a white early 2000s Chevrolet Impala with loud power steering. The main suspect is 29-year-old Lelana Sitting Up. She is a native woman, 5 feet 3 inches tall, with brown hair and has a tattoo on her neck that says “No excuses no regrets.”
According to a SFPD news release, Lelana is in a relationship with the child’s non-custodial father, Jade White.
