Jacks finish season with 23-10 win over Bison

FARGO, N.D. (SDSU) — The Jacks retained the Border Bell on Sunday against North Dakota State as they took their fourth dual in a row against the Bison, 23-10.

The dual started at 125 pounds where Tanner Jordan took on Ezekiel Witt. Jordan found himself in control for two periods, securing a reversal in the second to take a 2-0 lead into the second. Witt chose neutral for the third and went on the offensive, eventually leading to a takedown and a decision win over Jordan, putting the Bison up 3-0 to start the dual.

At 133 pounds, No. 32 Derrick Cardinal took on No. 23 Kyle Burwick. Burwick got off to a fast start scoring a takedown in the first and turning Cardinal for a near fall in the second. Cardinal rallied back with two takedowns in the third but gave up a late takedown and a near fall to Burwick, giving up a major decision and adding four more points to the Bison lead.

No. 25 Julian Tagg was the first Jackrabbit to get on the board as he avenged his loss from earlier in the season against Michael Olson at 141 pounds. Tagg scored a takedown in the first and didn’t look back adding an escape and a ride time point scoring a 5-0 win over Olson.

Avery Allen faced off against Gavin Drexler at 149, where he went on the offensive scoring a takedown in periods one and two. In the third, he fended off all of Drexler’s offense and scored three more vital points for the Jacks heading to 157 pounds.

Moses Espinoza-Owens stepped up at 157 pounds for the Jacks against Clay Radenz. After giving up an early takedown, Moses found his footing landing takedown after takedown on his way to a major decision over Radenz.

No. 12 Drake Rhodes took on Boeden Greenley at 165 pounds. Drake scored on a shot in the first and continued to be aggressive throughout the first two periods. Greenley scored a takedown late in the match but Rhodes scored an escape to clinch the 6-5 decision for the Jackrabbits.

No. 8 Cade DeVos took on Devin Wasley at 174 pounds. DeVos scored an early takedown on an ankle pick and never looked back racking up the takedowns on his way to a 14-2 major decision.

No. 5 Bennett Berge went up against No. 31 Aidan Brenot at 184 pounds. Berge scored a takedown in the first and rode it out to finish the period, and followed it up with an escape in the second. Brenot went on the offensive in the third putting up a late takedown but it was too late as Berge held on for a 5-4 decision.

No. 14 Zach Glazier took on Tayshaun Glover at 197 pounds. Glazier scored early in an action-packed third period on a takedown, but Glover followed it up with a reversal and a takedown of his own. Thanks to some escapes, Glazier took a 7-5 lead into the third, where he stifled Glover’s offense and forced a stall call on his way to an 8-6 decision.

Luke Rasmussen finished the dual off for the Jacks as he took on Drew Blackburn-Forst. Blackburn-Forst scored early with a takedown in the first and a reversal in the second. Rasmussen put together some offense in the third, scoring a takedown to cut the deficit to 6-4. But it proved too late for Rasmussen as he was unable to turn Blackburn-Forst over from the top position, dropping a 7-5 decision.
