Late USD surge leads Coyotes past NDSU in quarterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — An incredible late surge helped the USD men edge NDSU 85-84 in the quarterfinal round of the Summit League Tournament.

The Coyotes outscored the Bison 26-15 in the final seven minutes of the game to earn the come from behind win.

USD will now play Omaha in the semifinals on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Friday’s contest saw NDSU hold a multi score lead for much of the game, until a late Coyote run.

USD used a 10-0 run in the second half to close the gap and build a 79-78 lead with 90 seconds to play.

The two teams exchanged free throws, tying the game at 81 with 39 seconds to play. That’s when Chase Forte converted a free throw, giving the Coyotes a one point lead.

NDSU called a timeout with 21.9 and the ball, seeking a chance to regain the lead.

That’s when USD got their biggest stop of the season… a miss from Tajavis Miller.

USD added a pair of Isaac Bruns free throws to hold onto the win and claim a 85-84 win.

Chase Forte led all scorers on the night, tallying a game high 28 points. Isaac Bruns added 21 points, while Mayuom Buom posted 14.

NDSU’s Tajavis Miller scored 26 to lead the Bison, while Masen Miller hit five three’s and added 19 points.
