Police say they noted suspicious circumstances and began an investigation. Through the investigation, authorities developed a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for Jimmie David Ledbetter Jr.

Ledbetter was arrested and charged with 1st-degree and 2nd-degree murder. More details on the homicide are expected during Friday’s police briefing.

According to court documents, one of the victim’s children called police and said their mother wasn’t doing well. By the time officers arrived at the woman’s southwest Sioux Falls home, her hands were cold to the touch.

According to court documents, investigators gathered video from around the neighborhood, and in one of them you could hear screaming while the suspect was inside the home with the victim.
