Murder charges pending in Windom New Year’s stabbing

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two men were stabbed, one fatally, on New Year’s Eve in Windom, Minn., and the man arrested has pending murder charges.

The man who died, according to a GoFundMe organized by a family member, was 30-year-old Benjamin Matter.

The condition and identity of the other victim has not been provided.

According to the Cottonwood County Jail roster, 26-year-old Happy, No Name Given was booked into the jail on January 1, 2025.

KELOLAND spoke with the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, who explained that the man’s name is simply Happy, but since he was required to have a first name on his California drivers license, No Name Given was entered as his first name. Happy has the following pending charges:

Murder-1st Degree – With Intent – While Committing a Felony

Murder -1st Degree – Premeditated

Two counts of Assault-1st Degree-Great Bodily Harm

Four counts of Assault-2nd Degree-Dangerous Weapon-Substantial Bodily Harm – Arrest of Adult

Terroristic Threats-Reckless Disregard Risk

Disorderly Conduct – Brawling or Fighting

The Windom Police Department announced the arrest on Wednesday, noting that officers had been called to a local bar just before midnight.
