SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Shots were fired by an officer with the Sioux Falls Area Fugitive Task Force Thursday night while trying to serve a warrant.

When police made contact at the home, Jellis barricaded himself inside. The suspect then produced a weapon, believed to be a shotgun that was inside the home, which caused one of the officers to fire at him.

About an hour later, the suspect surrendered to authorities and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident. A full report will be available at a later time.

“In its investigation, DCI will process the crime scene, conduct a forensic examination of all collected evidence, interview those involved, and review all available video. DCI will issue a summary once the investigation is completed.” the Attorney General’s office said.

This is the fourth officer involved shooting in South Dakota this year.
