Preparing for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — St. Patrick’s Day is Monday, but many people will start celebrating this weekend.

Expect to see a lot of green in downtown Sioux Falls this weekend.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will roll down Phillips Avenue on Saturday afternoon, but the celebrations will take place throughout the day.

The festive day downtown means big business for Blarney Stone.

“This is definitely our busiest day of the year, hands down,” Blarney Stone Assistant General Manager Shauna Coop said.

In fact, Coop says the restaurant starts preparing for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in January.

“We have to reach out to our bagpipers. They’re a group that’s been with us that have been coming here every year. We start reaching out to our beer reps for merchandise,” Coop said.

Saturday will be all hands on deck.

“We even have previous staff members that will reach out to us and they’re like, ‘Hey, I want to work St. Patty’s Day. It’s a huge thing. We put our all into it,” Coop said.

Green beer will be flowing at both Blarney Stone and Lucky’s.

Luke Nohns is the manager of the downtown location.

He says Lucky’s St. Patrick’s Day prep also starts in January.

“It’s a huge day. It’s like Christmas for us. It’s the biggest day of the year. It’s when everybody goes out,” Nohns said.

Lucky’s is expecting wall to wall people Saturday.

“You really can’t see from one end of the building to the other, but it’s a good day,” Nohns said.

And it’s almost time to celebrate.

“I would say it’s controlled chaos, but it’s so much fun,” Coop said.

Lucky’s is also preparing to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at its Louise location.
