SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – It’s ramping up to be a busy weekend in the downtown Sioux Falls area, with parades and festivals getting underway.

“Just to let people know if they’re going to be downtown, during that time there may be some delays, try to find an alternate route if you can.” Sioux Falls Police Department spokesman Sam Clemens said in a city briefing Thursday.

The Festival of Cultures will be happening at the Levitt from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s set to have vendors, food trucks and performers, all celebrating a vast array of different cultures.

The Pride Parade runs from 10 to 11 a.m. and will take place along 8th Street. The celebrations will continue with the pride festival at Yankton Trail park, running from 12 to 5 p.m.

Clemens reported an assembly permit was issued from 11 to 2 p.m. along Minnesota Avenue, between 6th and 8th street. Protests will be happening along the sidewalk.

It’s part of the “No Kings” rally movement, where protesters nationwide voice their opposition to president Trump’s increasing authoritarianism, according to the event details.

“Sounds like the organizers are anticipating quite a few people there, maybe a thousand people or so,” Clemens said in the city briefing.

“At this point we don’t really anticipate any type of issues or problems but it might be something that people need to keep an eye on,” Clemens said.
