SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Falls Animal Control says that the three puppies rescued from a dumpster in January were, in fact, not abandoned in a dumpster.
Sioux Falls Animal Control Supervisor Patty Beckman said during Tuesday’s police briefing false statements had been made, and that the puppies had never been left outside or found in a dumpster.

“We would like to make it known that we do have many resources in the surrounding area that are available for people that have unwanted pets, that feel overwhelmed with too many animals in their home, or just can’t care for their pets,” said Beckman.
Katie Day with Almost Home Canine Rescue also spoke, explaining that there are several groups around the Sioux Falls area that will help with situations such as this, especially dealing with puppies.
“If we would have received an email saying ‘hey these puppies need to find a foster that is able to bottle feed them’, we have a list of bottle feeders in the area,” said Day.
Back in January, it had been reported that a good Samaritan had found the pups in a dumpster on Kiwanis Avenue. Calls were made for the person who allegedly abandoned them to be located and charged with animal cruelty.
