SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls man says a car break-in will cost him hundreds of dollars.
Matthew O’Neal is missing a passenger window after he says someone broke into his SUV over the weekend while he was visiting a friend in southwestern Sioux Falls.

“My driver window was attempted to be smashed in. They nicked it with what looks to be a window puncher. And then my rear driver side door was completely shattered in,” O’Neal said.
After posting about it on an app, O’Neal found out others in western Sioux Falls had their own stories to share.
In surveillance video captured Friday night, someone first tries to open a locked pickup door in a driveway.
Then they move onto a car where they get inside.
The car owner told KELOLAND News they pounded on their front door and it scared the person off.
The person then appears to get into a vehicle waiting on the street.
The next night at a different home, someone wearing similar shoes tries the door on an SUV before peering into a pickup.
Meanwhile, a car appears to be waiting in the street.
Surveillance video can be an important tool for law enforcement.
“As the reports are coming in detectives are able to use that video to match it up and hopefully develop suspects,” Sioux Falls Police Department Spokesperson Sam Clemens said.
O’Neal hopes by sharing his story, the people responsible can be stopped.
“They’re going to continue to do it as long as they’re out here and not getting caught, so I just want people to be aware. Keep your cars locked. Don’t put valuables in your car. Just keep your eyes out because it could happen,” O’Neal said.
O’Neal says some items in his car were taken, but he found them scattered on the street nearby.
Meanwhile, a man found his iPad on the ground and he got it back.
The Sioux Falls Police Department says it received several reports of broken car windows and a report of someone checking a car door in southwestern Sioux Falls.
No arrests have been made.
