SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sunday marks the third day of Winter Crazy Days: Shop and Stroll.
The temperature in Sioux Falls Sunday only got up to seven degrees, but that did not stop people from checking out sales during Winter Crazy Days.
“It’s cold and people definitely come in, and you can feel the burst of cold air on them, but it has not affected business,” Child’s Play Toys owner Nancy Savage said.
“Downtown Sioux Falls has done a great job of promoting the Winter Crazy Days just to kind of get people through the cold months, and today, now, we’ve got a pretty steady stream of traffic, even if it was colder.” Matchbox Candle Co. employee Steve Nosbush said.
Sunday was the final day for Heritage Boutique. Owner Emma Schulz says it’s important to participate in promotions like Crazy Days.
“Man’s Best Brew”
“If we don’t have local support or if downtown Sioux Falls traffic just kind of slows down, the closures happen, so it’s very important to support local and to shop small, even if it’s one tiny purchase. Everything makes a difference,” Schulz said.
“I definitely like supporting small businesses because my parents actually run a business in my hometown, so I like to support them, kind of like I’m supporting my parents’ business,” shopper Jade Kruse said.
Shopping local also spreads more money throughout the community.
“Why shouldn’t you shop local? When you spend a dollar at a local store, about $0.60 of that goes back into the community, and if you’re going to shop a big box store, only about $0.05 of that goes back into the community,” Schulz said.
And you still have one more day to brave the cold and take advantage of Crazy Day deals.
“It’s a perfect day to go hopping around the stores downtown, the bridges, anywhere and supporting local businesses and getting a good deal,” Savage said.
