SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — We’ve been on borrowed time this season. Meteorologist Scot Mundt looks at when we usually get our first measurable snow.
Many in KELOLAND had their first measurable snow of the season, well beyond due.
If you parked outside last night, you had to give yourself some extra time to clear snow and ice from you car. Depending on where you live, you had to drive through periods of snow and blowing snow throughout the morning.
But this snow is overdue.
Here’s a look at when we typically get our first measurable snow.
For many, it’s during the first week or two of November. It usually happens during the first ten days of the month in northeast KELOLAND.

And it varies in central and western South Dakota with it being as early as October 22 in Rapid City.
But some have had more than just measurable snow.
This is a look at when we usually get our first inch or more of snow.
Southeast KELOLAND usually gets at least an inch of snow during the second half of the month. As late as the 25th in Yankton.
Northeast South Dakota sees their first inch or more around this time of year.
For central and western South Dakota, it ranges from November 8th in Rapid City to November 24th in Pierre.
The snow will eventually come to an end as we go through this evening and tonight. Then it looks like we’ll get into calmer conditions Thursday through Sunday.
