Tonight a Sioux Falls man released from prison just weeks ago is back behind bars facing murder and manslaughter charges. 35 year old Jordan Adams made his first court appearance Monday afternoon in the stabbing death of a 45 year old man at a Sioux falls apartment complex near 41st and Marion Road.
According to court papers several witnesses saw and heard the stabbing at the Meadowland apartments early Friday morning. One person described Adams as drunk and lunging at the victim with a knife. When police arrived they found 45 year old Chitprasong Amphavannasouk in the 3rd floor hallway. They attempted lifesaving efforts but couldn’t save him.
Man arrested 3 times in 13 months for robbery
Police also located a suspect. 35 year old Jordan Adams had blood on his clothes and a cut on his lower leg. Officers took him to the hospital and then to the police station where he was interviewed and eventually arrested.
“Probably the big question we have is what happened,” said police spokesman Sam Clemens. “And we don’t know that. We had several witnesses that saw the altercation taking place and identified the suspect in this case, we don’t know what led up to it still working on trying to figure that out.”
An Autopsy indicates Amphavannasouk was stabbed 5 times, two were defensive wounds to his hands others were to his body and one pierced his heart.
Adams was in prison recently. The DOC website says he was released March 11th. We asked Clemens if it was frustrating to see someone accused of committing a violent crime so soon after being released from prison.
“Our job is to find those responsible for committing that crime and hold them accountable, and then once it gets to the courts and certainly corrections they have their own processes in place from there,” said Clemens.
According to court papers Adams told police he had been drinking with friends at the apartment and doesn’t remember anything. Clemens says it doesn’t appear anyone else was involved in the stabbing. Adams appeared briefly before a judge Monday with his court appointed attorney. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf and his bond remains at one million dollars.
