SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Saturday featured a large amount of severe weather events and reports across KELOLAND…including at least two confirmed tornadoes: One near Gary, SD and a second south of Kadoka. Here’s a look at the spread of storm reports that have been observed:
Unfortunately, we’re not completely done with the chance to see some active weather across KELOLAND. In fact, we’ve been watching a few storms fire up and push through both sides of the river…warranting severe thunderstorm warnings at times.
The chance to see scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain with us through the day, with some storms having the chance to become strong to severe.
A Marginal Risk for severe weather is in place near and south/east of Sioux Falls as well as in the Black Hills through Rapid City and into Bennett County. A Slight Risk is in place for the southwestern corner of South Dakota. Wind and hail are the main concerns, but there’s always a non-zero isolated tornado risk with any storm that gets its act together.
Shower and thunderstorm chances taper off as we head into the night, and that leads into a nice break for the region. Both Monday and Tuesday are shaping up to be rather pleasant and seasonable with quiet conditions beyond a bit of a breeze on Monday.
Shower and storm chances return East River on Wednesday, with chances trying to pop up out west on Thursday while the east stays quiet. Several chances for rain and thunderstorms will be in the cards from the Fourth of July on Friday through the weekend. If you have any outdoor plans for the upcoming holiday weekend, you’ll want to keep an eye on things.
