SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — American Legion Post 15 in Sioux Fall is hosting a Four Chaplains Remembrance Service. It’s in honor of four chaplains who gave up their life jackets to save others aboard a sinking troop ship during World War II. The service is at 2 p.m. at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. Admission is free.
Also at the Alliance, the Legion post is serving an all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $8, $2 for children. Donations are also welcome.
Events taking place at the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo in Rapid City include a Cowboy Church Service and a Community Health Summit, both starting at 10 a.m., plus a High School Rodeo Showcase at 1 p.m. The stock show runs through February 8th.
The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra presents a Winter Chamber Music Concert on the campus of Augustana University. The performance is at 1 p.m. in the Hamre Recital Hall. Tickets are $10.
Also on the Augie campus, the Augustana Library Associates present A Winter’s Tale featuring readings of literary works in the Mikkelson Library. The event goes from 2-5 p.m. and includes music by Sara Thomsen. Refreshments will be served after the performance.
The Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society is hosting an open house at their club building on the north side of the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. You can check out South Dakota’s largest permanent model railroad display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Explore Sioux Falls and South Dakota history courtesy of Siouxland Heritage Museums. The Old Courthouse Museum located downtown and the Pettigrew Home and Museum, in the Cathedral District, are both open from noon to 5 p.m.
The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15.50 for adults, $11.50 for children and free for ages under two.
The Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $11 for children and free for ages under two.
Competitors of all ages are invited to take part in the Sanford Speed Races at Great Bear Ski Valley in Sioux Falls. The races start at 1 p.m. It costs $10 to enter with a chance to win a trophy and door prizes. Great Bear is open for regular skiing and snowboarding from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The tubing hill is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The City of Sioux Falls’ outdoor ice rinks are located at Campus, Frank Olson, McKennan, Memorial, Sherman and Tuthill parks. Today’s hours are 1-8 p.m. Admission is free.
Open indoor skating at the SCHEELS IcePlex in Sioux Falls goes from 1-3 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults and $7 for children. Skate rentals are $4.
