SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sioux Falls Police are investigating an apparent shooting incident near 11th and Sneve Avenue behind Eastway Bowl.
According to a news release at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, officers were called around 8:45 a.m. to the area of 11th Street and Sneve Avenue for a victim of a gunshot wound. The victim, a 38-year-old Sioux Falls resident, died on scene as a result of their injuries.

Police said they are investigating the shooting as a homicide. This is the 16th homicide in Sioux Falls in 2024, a record for the city. Police told KELOLAND News just a few weeks ago that there is no single reason they can pinpoint for the record number of violent deaths in the city this year.
SFPD Sgt. Travis Olsen first announced the shooting during Thursday morning’s police briefing. He said there was no danger to the public but advised the public to stay away from the area because of the investigation.

The shooting was first reported at about 9 a.m. Thursday as “a man down.” When officers arrived they found a man with a serious gunshot wound. An ambulance was on the scene with officers when our camera arrived.
“Officers are investigating as we speak,” Olsen said during Thursday’s police briefing.
The investigation regarding this incident is still ongoing at this time.
