SWIFT BIRD, SD (KELO) — A large grassfire in north-central South Dakota is a reminder of how quickly flames can spread in these dry conditions.
The fire burned around 1-thousand acres Friday north of Highway 212, in Dewey County, west of Gettysburg.
The Gettysburg Fire Department says the fire was sparked by a wheel bearing going out.
Crews from several nearby communities responded and have been able to get the fire under control.
They’ll be be monitoring the area for any flare-ups.
