When will we see another snowfall?

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — We had a return to winter weather Wednesday with falling temperatures. This will lead to a cold day tomorrow with highs in the teens in eastern KELOLAND. But even with the cold air, our pattern is not conducive for much snow.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been stuck in northwest flow. Meaning we’ve been watching a system from the northwest to bring in light snow. While that continues in the short term, it will soon change.

This is a look at what’s expected in the higher layers of the atmosphere. We’ll eventually get into a zonal flow, meaning systems will move west to east across KELOLAND. In a pattern like this, temperatures are usually close to average or just above. Considering the lack of snow for many in KELOLAND, expect more days with above-average highs.

So for the next couple of weeks, it’s not looking ideal for snow lovers across the area.
